With nearly 30 years of experience in the filmmaking industry, the team at Narrow Gauge Films, is here to provide camera support and production/archival scanning services.

Film Scanning.

We provide full-service scanning from 8mm, Super 8, 16mm, Super 16 to 35mm formats. We use state of the art 4k scanners, delivering full DCI-4k resolution, 12 bit full 444 files, Wet Gate dirt/scratch removal and warped film fixes.

Digital Film Restoration

Using state of the art Digital Vision Phoenix software, we can take damaged film and restore it to look like new. Major issues like damaged splices, faded color, dirt/scratches and even warping, can easily be corrected.

Product Engineering.

We have re-created many difficult to find parts for Aaton cameras. We also make several products for Aaton and digital cinema cameras under the name Dragon Cine.

Camera Repair

As a professionally trained technician, we can provide camera service for Aaton camera systems, LTR/XTR, A Minima, 35III and Penelope. We also take on other projects, so please call us with requests.

Restoration

Using state of the art tools from Digital Vision, we can provide complete restoration of your original assets, no matter how damaged they are. Our custom warped film wet gate, provides stable scans. Digital Vision Phoenix carefully restores every frame like new. Stabilization, dirt/scratch removal and shrinking compensation are just a few key features.

Tyler is a fully trained camera technician and restoration/post production expert. With over 20 years working in Hollywood, Tyler has a great deal of experience working on feature and short films as well.

Hayden Morrison

Product Engineer and Scanning Technician

Hayden is our lead product engineer and also our scanner technician. He works closely with Tyler to insure the finished product is perfect.

Pricing.


Service

We charge $150/hour for basic labor, with a minimum of one hour.
We flat-rate magazine service at $150 per magazine, which includes any servicing labor AND scratch test.
We charge a $50 diagnosis fee, if service is not completed through us.
We have an extensive parts inventory for Aaton cameras as well. Please contact us for pricing.

Scanning Only

For our basic Super 8, 8mm and all 16mm scans, we use a Film Fabriek HDS + 4k scanner.
This scanner delivers exceptional dynamic range and color accuracy, as well as full DCI 4k
For 35mm scans, we have Imagica 4k, Spirit 4k or Scanity 4k. Choose which one you want.

4k One-Light scan of super 8mm starts at .45 cents per foot.

4k One-Light scan of super and standard 16mm starts at .35 cents per foot.

4k One-Light scan of 35mm starts at .45 cents per foot.

Each scan is color matched and delivered on whatever codec and drive you wish.

Package 1: 16mm Processing + Prep + Scanning Packages

For filmmakers shooting on film today and want a great deal, we offer this complete package for them.

Starting at $.58 cents per foot

We will process, prep, clean and scan your 16mm film, with clean color pass AND deliver on whatever format you wish!
This deal is ONLY for ECN color negative stocks and turn around is usually 48hrs depending on quantity

Package 2: 16mm Film + Processing + Prep + Scanning Package

For filmmakers who also need film, we offer another outstanding deal. This one includes everything in package 1
But also brand new raw stock straight from Kodak's own freezers!

Starting at $1.14 per foot for 400ft loads of 16mm

We will sell you fresh frozen film from Kodak, process the film that comes back to us, clean, prep and scan in 4k.
This deal is for 16mm Vision negative stocks only in 400ft loads. Turn around is usually 48hrs depending on quantity.

8mm and Super 8 Home Movie Scan

For people with 8mm and Super 8 home movie scans, we have a fantastic low-cost deal.
We can scan your films at 1080p, which lowers the cost AND we'll even do a cleanup pass included in these prices!
8mm and Super 8mm only
Rolls are measured from center to outside edge
50ft to 200ft 1" - 2.5" roll = $40 each
400ft 3.5" roll = $50 each
600ft 4.5" roll = $75 each
800ft 5 - 6" rolls = $100 each
All 8mm and super 8 rolls will require a $30 setup fee to scan per roll, which includes inspection AND new leader head and tails.
50ft rolls can be assembled onto larger reels to lock you into the discounted price for $50 per roll which includes a new reel.

Wet Gate Restoration Scan (removes dirt and scratches)

For our advanced restoration Super 8, 8mm and 16mm scans, we use a Film Fabriek HDS + 4k scanner with wet gate.
This scanner delivers exceptional dynamic range and color accuracy, virtually removing dirt and scratches!
Then, after we scan your film, we will run it through our automated dirt removal, which makes the images look like new!
This process is not for damaged film (physically or color), but works good for typical aging film

Pricing starts at only $.60 cents per foot,

Which is a smoking deal for what you get.
Please contact us for bulk rates and timeframes, as wet gate scans do take a while.


Damaged film and full restoration

For people with old/damaged 8mm, Super 8 and 16mm formats, either warped, severely faded, bad perforations, etc.
The price includes inspection, ultrasonic cleaning, custom wet gate scanning (including clamping gate), full Phoenix restoration & DaVinci Resolve color.
